A Bible Passage A Day: John 15:12

Love each other as I have loved you. It is such a simple yet profound command. But the question really is: How does Jesus love?

How does Jesus love?

Jesus loves intensely… compassionately… and … wholeheartedly.

Jesus’s love is so intense that it moved Him to do things that people did not expect him to do.

He cured the sick. He ate with them.

He raised people from the dead.

He forgave people, even those who have done Him wrong.

Jesus’s love is one that is brought about by compassion. He saved a sinful woman from being beaten up to death, pointing out that nobody is sinless.

He showed compassion for the poor. He assured them about eternal salvation.

Jesus loves wholeheartedly. He loves the same way that a child wholeheartedly loves his parents. His heart is filled with love that there is no room for hatred, for anger, or for resentment.

Jesus’s love endures. His love forgives. His love saves. His love heals.

How exactly can we, mere human beings, keep up with loving this way?

Simply feel the love in your heart.

Jesus’s mighty command may look deep and challenging, but it is actually easy.

It all boils down to feeling His love in our lives.

When we feel Jesus’s love for us, it will be easy for us to share this love with others.

Jesus’s love is shown to us in a myriad of ways, and it starts with the way we feel love from the people dear to us — our families and friends.

Whenever we feel grateful about simple things that remind us about Jesus’s love for us, a glimmer of love lives in our hearts, ready to be shared with others.

Have you ever experienced feeling loved by someone that you instantly feel the urge to show more love to others, too?

That is Jesus’s loving heart living in your spirit.

The kind of love that moves you to be compassionate.

The kind of love that moves you to become a blessing.

On another note, a discussion about love reminds me of the famous Whitney Houston song that everybody knows.

Self-love

“Learning to love yourself is the greatest love of all.”

Jesus also wants us to extend the same compassionate, intense, and wholehearted love to ourselves.

It is not selfish to love ourselves.

It is essential for us to love ourselves before we can love others.

After all, we cannot give what we do not have.

We love ourselves by taking care of our bodies.

We eat healthy foods and exercise.

We also love ourselves by taking care of our hearts.

We stay away from people who put us down.

We choose our companions wisely because doing so makes us wise, too.

We also love ourselves by taking care of our souls.

We meditate and clear our minds from worries.

We practice gratitude and appreciation of ourselves and others.

We also love ourselves by allowing others to love us, too.

We do not shoo away people who love us.

Instead, we tell ourselves that we deserve to be loved because we are wonderful human beings.

Today’s Challenge

John 15:12 tells us about the beauty of Jesus’s love especially when it is shared.

The challenge for us is to feel the love of Jesus in our lives, and share it with other people.

May we feel the kind of love that will move us to love more and more like Jesus every day.
